WNBU Wins 2017 INDIES Book Award!

Lockhart, TX. Today, Red Raku Press is pleased to announce When Normal Blew Up: The Story of the People Who Died and the People Who Lived On has been named a winner in the 20th annual Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards. Foster's book won a Bronze Award in the True Crime category.

Foreword Reviews, a book review journal focusing on independently published books, announced the winners of its INDIES Book of the Year Awards today. The INDIES recognize the best books published in 2017 from small, indie, and university presses, as well as self-published authors.

The book, the story of a tragic event in the town of Circleville, Ohio, in 1967, was all but forgotten until the author, Joni Foster, was compelled to look for the details behind her father’s death caused by a bomb explosion in the heart of this small-town fifty years ago.

“I never imagined so many people in Circleville were also traumatically affected by that day so long ago,” said author, Joni Foster. “Almost daily I continue to hear from people who share where they were when the bomb went off, how that day changed their life, and how the book has helped them heal.”

You can purchase the book in Circleville, OH or Lockhart, TX and at Amazon.com.

“Awarding the INDIES is an intense months long judging process and our editorial team and librarian/bookseller judges grow a bit emotional as the announcement date nears,” said Matt Sutherland, Foreword Reviews’ editor-in-chief. “Everyone involved finds it a great honor to recognize all these great books because so many of them have been overlooked by mainstream publications due to the low profile of their publishers and authors. While they don’t have major PR machine or corporate budgets, these indie publishers are passionate about what they do, take chances, and produce a wide range of thought-provoking books.”

Over 2,000 entries were submitted in 68 categories, with Foreword’s editors choosing the finalists and a panel of more than 150 librarians and booksellers acting as judges to pick the winners.
