Our guest cottage is located behind our house on a couple of acres surrounded by woods and fields. Perfect for one or two people to enjoy the beauty and solitude that the country offers.

The cottage is about 400 square feet and includes a semi-private bedroom, kitchen, living room, bath, and a covered porch with rocking chairs. The cottage has WiFi, limited cell phone service, a smart TV and no cable.

We are located about an hour outside of Austin, about 15 minutes outside of Lockhart, and about 3 miles from the community of McMahan, TX. We live right off a Farm-to-Market road, and our property is wooded and wild. The cottage is close but not too close to the main house. Our guests can enjoy solitude, yet not feel isolated, which seems important for urban dwellers not used to the blinding darkness of country nights. Parking in our driveway. There is a short walk to the cottage.

What we ask. To rent our cottage, you must be self-disciplined and self-entertained in a quiet, country fashion. No loud music, no parties (without clearing it with us first), no fighting and no drug abuse. In other words, don’t break the tranquility of our oasis.

A little about your hosts. Joni Foster is an award-winning independent author and publisher, and a business coach by day. Her husband is a licensed social worker. We have chickens, a well-behaved dog and a mostly inside cat.

2 nights and 2 solid days of refuge

Five Day Special - $300

4 nights and 4.5 solid days in a row

Make your reservations through AirBNB. Write in the comments that you want the Writer's Retreat which allows earlier check in and later check out.

Queen-sized bed
Air mattress in the loft

Assorted seasonal garden vegetables and fresh eggs when available

Not handicap friendly. No maid service. No meals included. Leave the cottage as you found it. We will pick up the dirty towels and linens after you leave.

The community of McMahan - 3 miles. Whizzerville Hall Pizza, gas station/country store with lunch grill.
Beautiful country roads to walk or ride bike. 3-mile loop nearby. (You will most likely want to drive a mile to access the best walking/biking spots.)
New home of the Old Settlers Music Fest - 2 miles. Fest held in the spring of each year.
Happy Chicks Farm – 7 miles. Farm-based open market on Wednesday afternoons. (Check their Facebook page for hours)
